Standing Bear (var.)

FA Brian Biega and Paul Teare, 2009

UPDATED

Description

Consistent laybacking up the right side of the pillar. The actual crux is fairly low but the climbing is quality all the way to the anchors. This route alone might be worth the hike out here and is a must-do for 5.10 trad climbers.

The full Standing Bear continues up and right of the anchors for 4 bolts - I suppose this is a shorter variation, but is a logical line on it's own.

From the lower Standing Bear anchors, it's also easy to toprope the first half of Dark Matter, although the first half of Dark Matter isn't easy...

Location

Look for the obvious, slightly phallic-looking pillar at the Trophy Wall. Standing Bear heads up the right side of the pillar.

Protection

Gear to 1", lower-off anchors.
