East Domesticater

Description

The route takes the long offwidth that splits the East and West Domesticaters.  Climb the deep and long offwidth on the north side of the spire getting pro wherever you can (a few small cracks here and there) but it is mostly pretty run out.  You will get to a notch between the two spires.  East Domesticater will be the left of the two spires.  Continue up the obvious easy chunky face for about 30' to a horizontal just below the summit block.  Pull up over an exposed, steep and juggy bulge (crux) onto the summit boulder.

Location

Easy to identify - the deep offwidth splitting the two spires is an obvious landmark.

This route was named as our friend and visiting climber from Boulder felt that after all these sketchy Needles antics, he'd be happy to go home, clean his house, and be domestic for a little bit.  A satisfying adventure.

Protection

All gear, mostly small stuff. A BD #4 and #5 are really useful. The 5 is probably more useful. Sling the summit for an anchor. Rappel was done as two Needles Style Rappels. One 80 m rope MIGHT make it as a NSR off the top. It was a hard call.
