Undercling/sidepulls, subtle crimps, and hidden incuts take you past the first two bolts (and the crux) to a ledge. Use the arete to the left to reach the last bolt, then step back right to get the anchors.

This gets one star in the Haas/Weidner guidebook, but I felt it was super interesting and a good bit more difficult than the .11a rating.

This is an old project that was finally sent by Ted Lanzano. Congratulations, Ted. The route ascends a slightly overhanging face. The original start climbs a moderate finger & hand crack, past 2 bolts, to a good ledge below the face. The bushes have grown back in the crack, so you may be forced to start on "

Harassment

" past its 1st bolt. Stem up the corner on the left to reach the 4th bolt, & then move right onto the face using a small crimp. A more direct start off the ledge, past the 3rd bolt, may be possible. Hard moves lead up the face, above 4th & 5th bolts, to a big, flat hold & 6th bolt. Move up left to a jug near the dihedral. Then move back right on sloping holds along a horizontal break to reach an arete. Pull up the arete a few feet to gain a sloping ledge on the right at the top of "

Harassment

" & its anchor. A direct line past the 6th bolt would add to the difficulty. The grade is tentative & awaits confirmation from future ascents.

The Holdup was bolted by Mark Rolofson in 2001 and referred to as Anger Management in his

Boulder Canyon Sport & Adventure Climber's Guide

, Vol. II, The Upper Canyon. It climbs the short, clean, slightly overhanging, center arete at the Hideout. More like a long boulder problem than a route, The Holdup is perfect for anyone interested in testing their power endurance.

To begin, scamble up about 15 feet of easy terrain, clip the first bolt, and mantel onto a shelf below the arete. This is your last chance to rest. From here, sprint up the arete, making increasingly difficult and technical moves until you get to a reachy crux, which is followed by a strenuous clip and a very cool but draining mantel sequence that takes you to the chains.

This route missed classic status, because it lacks the aesthetics and length that people expect of a four star route; however, The Holdup compensates for this with amazing moves, great rock, and a nice line. Plus, being South-facing and well out of the canyon, this is a great option for cold, sunny days in the winter.

Due to the distance between holds at the crux, this route could feel a bit easier for tall people and way harder for short people. Anyways, I encourage people to get on it. Hopefully, the Holdup doesn't rob as many days and finger tips from you as it did from me!

. It ascends a short, technical face with thin foot holds, with a long reach or lunge left to a bucket. Then, ascend the diagonal feature to its top, and move left to a short, right-facing dihedral to the anchor.

: instead of reaching/lunging left at the 2nd bolt, heading right and up adds several interesting moves and makes for a much better climb.

This is an ok but kind of contrived route on the left side of the left Hideout.  Climb past 2 bolts to a ledge.  Climb up and right using a crack while clipping a couple bolts.  Instead of staying with the crack, pull to the left on slopers and get situated above a bulge.  This will feel a bit unnatural but is kind of fun.  A little bit more fun climbing to a mantle that takes you to the hidden anchors.

Climb a hard start to a small corner/groove. There are more interesting features to finish, although it is maybe a little reachy.

It would clean up with more traffic, which it is unlikely ever to get.

(11c) past a face (10+) with a bolt or you can go R to the ledge with a big tree.

Brat Slamet is slabby, discontinuous, seam climbing.  It is essentially a bolted boulder problem. This has great rock with unique movement.  Since the second clip is difficult, most people clip the first two for the redpoint.

This is sort of an atrractive line firing the 3rd arete of 3 bolted aretes from the left.  It has a moderate start before the business begins.  There is a terrific rest on the right side of the arete.  More challenging climbing continues above.

Climb a short, vertical section and pull up onto a big ledge.  Climb up the slightly left-facing dihedral with a flake/seam to the left, clipping bolts that are around a small corner to the right.  Be careful through here as the climbing is a little goofy, there is a really nasty ledge below you, and the bolts are situated in awkward locations.  Pull a small roof to easier climbing above and the anchors.

The climbing on this route is decent, but the bolt placements on the lower section detract from its quality.  The main wall is a flake that becomes more detached as you move upward.  It would be better if the bolts were on the left hand side of the miny arete, instead of on the right hand side.  It would make them easier to clip, and prevent the quickraws from scraping on the arete.

This is another bouldery Boulder Canyon route, first bolted by Vaino Kodas and Mark Rolofson. It is referred to as a project with the name Filibuster and a potential grade of 13a in Mark Rolofson's guidebook.  Start with a V5ish sequence over a bit of a roof to start. This is both  crimpy and shouldery. After your feet are established over the lip, the climbing eases substantially and follows the arete to the anchors.

Thin layaway holds lead past the first two bolts. Climb to the side of a sharp, left-facing corner, and make an unlikely move into the corner. Finish up and right to anchors.

This is better than it looks.

Scramble up onto a ledge at a right-facing corner. You can stem for a minute or try not to. When you launch onto the face, it stays strenuous until the anchor.  Nice, incut edges (one is glued) keep it reasonable. My much stronger partner aimed me at this route: "That's an easy 10 to warm up on." It felt a little hard for 10a....
