Peak Mountain 3

m. The Great Arch

Description

[Edit]

This is the wall just after the double overhang area. It is the steepest and most impressive section of the cliff.

A common descent for this area is to rappel from the bolts (next to the Cedar which used to be the rappel tree) on Corkscrew with 2 60m ropes.  This ledge is about 20' below the cliff top, and is reached by down-climbing a right facing corner. While it's not a tough scramble down to the tree from the top of the cliff, the consequences of a slip are dire, i recommend climbers belay each other on the 4th class scramble down to the cedar.

It's hard to tell from the ledge, but you're standing just a few feet over a massive overhang, the bulk of the rappel is entirely free-hanging.

With a single rope, or if you can't find the downclimb, head climbers left a few hundred feet to the bolted rap on The Rib.
